There's a commercial that features Joe Torre, Derek Jeter and George Steinbrenner where they make fun of the fact that they are ruining the sport of baseball. Steinbrenner's writing hand is sprained because he's been writing so many checks is the premise of the ad. And I'd truly like to kick them all in the face.
These assholes are destroying any semblance of parity in the sport of baseball. The Minnesota Twins had almost no chance against the Yankees, why? Because the Twins payroll is a fifth that of the Yankees. A fifth! Look at this way, Jason Giambi, Alex Rodriguez and Kevin Brown make ALOT more than the entire Twins team. How could this be considered fair?
If the Yankees DON'T win a hundred and twenty games with what amounts to an all-star team as their regular starting 9 then they are abject losers. If they don't sweep every playoff series and win the World Series by large margins then they are losers. Fuck Steinbrenner, Fuck Joe Torre and especially fuck Derek fucking Jeter. I hate the damned Yankees. I hate that they are like a bug zapper for players, all of them want to get into those nice, cushy deep pockets of Mr. Steinbrenner.
Fuck them all.
Now, who's got the second highest payroll? The Boston Red Sox. Why am I not infuriated by them as well? Well, their payroll is about $30 million less than the Yankees, they compete in the same division and they haven't won the pennant in far, far too long.
Is this the year? I hope so, they've got a scary lineup and the best pitchers in the game right now. If they don't do it this year or at least make a very serious 7 game threat then I don't know when they will do it.
Nope, I've had enough of the over-priced, over-hyped Yankees. Baseball needs a salary cap to maintain parity or this kind of purchased World Series ring thing will continue.
