Some firsts aren't as good as others. When Graydon learned how to smile and now laugh, those were a pair of good firsts.
A bad but inevitable first is his first cold. And he's got it now. I felt awful for him while I was changing him and he had to lie on his back. I could see myself in him as he hung his mouth open and tried to swallow the mucus. He sneezed instead.
And he has not even the first clue about how to blow his nose. So we use the suction bulb, not a gentle or elegant device but a necessary one for times like this. Only thing is that the bulb doesn't work very well and he's stuffed up.
So he sits and has this wondrous look on his face like he just can't figure out why his nose is full and he doesn't feel very well. He's not fussy about it, he's just sort of sitting in awe and he pretty well passed out after pounding his last bottle.
He'll be fine, it is, afterall, just a cold. And the upside is that since he is all boogery and all, it means his immune system works. Nice to know, ya know?
