"A defiant Saddam Hussein rejected accusations of war crimes and genocide in court Thursday, telling a judge in his first public appearance since his capture that the real "criminal" was President Bush"
Well who would have thought that I would end up politically aligned with a world class asshat like Saddam.
The enemy of your enemy is your friend. Right? Well no, not really. Just like, the customer isn't always right.
Anyway, the thing that sucks about Saddam getting airtime is that he's probably generating support from those still loyal to him. His very presence back in Iraq is a pick-me-up for all of the insurgent terrorists in the region. Him being there means there's a chance to free him. Blah, blah, blah, commando raids, blah, blah, blah, US soldiers kicking holy tar out of insurgent rebels, blah, blah, blah, Saddam escaping into Iraq again, blah, blah, blah, years of extra presence, lots of dead soldiers with names like John Appleton or Billy Johnson.
A defiant Saddam sounds like he was treated pretty damned well and I guess that's to be expected but its nice to think about him being hooked up to a juiced up car battery and given an infinitisimal fraction of the torture and pain and death he dealt to his own people.
A defiant Saddam sounds like he needed more time screaming and less time scheming. A defiant Saddam sounds empowered and dangerous. Not emasculated and small like he should be. He is going to try and just use the force of his personality and character to regain control over his country.
Image is everything and his image is healthy, strong and royally fuckin' pissed off. And that has, historically, meant that heads will roll. Only the most dim aren't at least wary of a caged tiger.
