Stupid, Stupid, Stupid
An extra size glass of stupid for me, hold the ice, just straight stupid.
Or maybe a little bad luck garnish too as it wasn't all my fault. Not quite, Layne's bucket of duh but I'm getting there.
I was heading to the store yesterday to pick up groceries for dinner, took my cruiser as I wasn't looking for speed, just an easy pedal. Nothing serious, nothing dangerous but, if you knew me, I can make danger out of thin air. Like a super power or something.
So, as I'm cruising along, I see a nub, an asphalt bump in the road that looked about perfect to tee up a jump off of. And that was totally cool, no worries, I dyno'ed off the bump and got some nice air. Only problem is that no one told my front wheel when the jump was over and it was time to get back down to business, namely rolling on the ground and controlling my direction.
Instead, it just kept going up and up and up. Until it reached that moment of "Oh Fuck!" and I went airborne again, this time as I slammed into the ground from the bike over rotating below me. I know how to fall and had my head tucked in tight to my chest to avoid cracking it open on the ground. Not so for my elbow or my butt air bags. I landed elbow first and then lower back into butt. Now, a hundred and seventy some off pounds of me landing elbow first on the asphalt doesn't sound like much fun and it really, really wasn't.
After I'd gotten my breath back a bit and let a passerby know that I was alright. I slowly made my way back home, only a block or two away.
Damage was worse than I'd first thought. My elbow had, well, it had split from the impact. Not a huge gash but enough to cause us to weigh a trip to the emergency room. And lots of leaking and stiffness and pain. And a bed with blood stains on it. And an amazingly fabulous fiance who doted upon me and made sure I was as good as I could be. So today, I'm Mr. Gimpy. No bikes for now and I'm curious as to how my motorcycle will work with the banged up arm. And wishing my Scirocco was road worthy right now but its not so I'm just going to have to deal.
Hell, at least I can still type. And, strangely, I seem to be typing with less mistakes than normal, go figure.
I also need to post about work. Had an interesting IM chat with a co-worker last night after work and came to some conclusions about my current position with the company and where my future may lie. And if that's not blogworthy than I just don't know what is.
But I've gotta go and clean my arm up for a new dressing. And yeah, I did snap a picture of it last night.
