Ticker Tape Parade for the Iraq "War" Veterans?
Today's Excite Poll was about a ticker tape parade in New York for the veterans of the latest oil war in the Middle East. Or maybe it should be known as Shrub II or something since its George the First's fault we had to go back in a clean up the situation over there. Can't have our oil interests messed around with too much, dontchaknow?

Anyway, the poll asked if a ticker tape parade in New York might be seen as gloating to the rest of the world.
To which my well thought out response is, Are you fucking kidding? Of course, its gloating. Only way it could be made worse (and more like the Romans) would be to march some token Iraqi war criminals in front of the procession and encourage parade watchers to pelt them with rotten fruit.

Gloating?

Didn't 'ole Shrub hisself invent gloating? Or did he just perfect it after "winning" the election even though he lost it?
Do I think the soldiers who fought the war deserve recognition for doing their jobs? Yes, I do. But we've already pissed off pretty much everyone, its like taking a crap on someone's new couch and then having the audacity to call their attention to it and then rub their noses in it and tell them it smells like roses.

But then, I forgot to take my anti-cynicism pill this morning.

CounterPoint
Because it tickles me. Here's a little Agatha Christie - I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing.

And that's a damned good thing to keep in mind.
