So P went to a new mother's class the other day to compare notes, see some other babies and basically get a little support going. Not that we're struggling, its just always nice to have a little sympathy and feedback.
What she learned is that we've got it pretty easy. We've got a pretty mellow and good kid who sleeps, doesn't cry excessively and for no reason, who isn't scared of random things (yet, I know its coming and I'll get to that part later).
Some of the new moms there were getting almost no sleep at all. They had babies that would scream half the night and just not let them rest at all. Or they cry for five hours straight. Or something that's just impossible to deal with or drags them down, down, down.
So we are lucky, we've got a wonderful, happy, healthy and beautiful baby boy who's the light of our lives and brings the both of us more joy than I could have ever thought possible.
I hesitate to say that I feel blessed because of the religious connotations implied by a blessing but if there's such a thing as an agnostic blessing then we've got it. A great baby boy, a wonderful dog, an awesome wife and a house of our own in a town we don't like. Oh well, three for four is pretty damned good.
