Born on 9/11

I always used to love my birthday, it was a cool number with cool attributes. I always joked that my birthday date indicated emergency dual oral gratification, 9/11/69.

And then an asshat named Osama hijacked some planes and killed alot of my countrymen on 9/11. And now my birthday belongs to the nation, it is a national day of sorrow and tragedy.

In some ways though, we were all born on 9/11/2001, all of America went through a crucible as our country was attacked. We merged into one collective mind and body crying out in anquish and anger at the unthinkable attack against our great nation. The madness of the next few days and weeks so a nation galvanized into one, an angry giant shaking off a slumber and looking for whoever had the audacity to jab at it.

We stood up as one, a monstrous nation thoroughly pissed off and ready to strike, with the global community on our side in sympathy and anger. And we began the campaign to seek out the evil doers that had attacked us.

Today marks the third anniversary of the theft of my birthday, it is the third time I've had to spend my day with the grim reminders of all those people who died. It is a somber day and usually has some sad moments.

But this year I will be spending my birthday with my family, my wife, my son and my dog. All of these things are new, they weren't here last year, heckm my boy and the hound didn't even exist last year.

Hold your loved ones close, remember those who lost their lives that morning and if you happen to have a drink, raise a glass to all of us. Me? I'm gonna drink a bunch of sake, eat some raw fish and then pass out in front of the tv with some baseball or football on.
