Last night I happened to be channel surfing and came across Step Into Liquid on Showtime and ended up watching the entire end of the movie on.
They were just starting a little segment where they'd taken a hydrofoil board that was originally made for water skiing and is bitchin' in its own right. But they took the seat off and started Hydrofoil Surfing. Yeah, riding a surfboard on a hydrofoil that carried them above the water. It was faster, flatter and just looks absolutely freaking awesome! The hydrofoil also allowed them to catch waves in choppy water without much trouble because the lift was coming from well under the surface. More at Hydrofoilsurfing.com.
Truly cool to watch them bounce along on what looks like a cushion of air with that little post going down into the water.
