John Kerry won't do it because he understands the ramifications of running a negative election campaign but I came up with what could be a very interesting response.
Run film of a bunch of guys who served in Vietnam during Bush's time of service back in the States. Have these guys talk a little bit about their experiences and then ask a question like, "How was it to serve in combat with George W. Bush?" and then zoom in to see and hear them say, "He didn't go."
Again and again and again. "He Didn't Go."
Demonstrate that not only is Bush not the "war president" he weaseled out of his duty. The same duty that he is trying his damnedest to take away from John Kerry. Maybe dig up some of Bush's National Guard drinking buddies and put them up. "He Didn't Go."
I would happily leave the Vietnam thing alone and I'm sure Kerry is ready to move on to more current events. Its solely because the Bush camp can't seem to let it go. And its really very telling to realize that Bush is focusing on Kerry's past because his own record is not only spotty its just plain gone missing. When the Bush camp talks about now, they always focus on what Kerry isn't going to do or can't do because they don't want to highlight Bush's "accomplishments" they want to try and plant the reasonable doubt seed that Kerry isn't who he says he is.
But the irony here is that Bush is not who he claims to be, hasn't done what he seems to think he has and presents himself as some kind of war hero when his military service record is incomplete and its very possible he was AWOL for two years of his service. Um yeah. Keep leveling the Kerry is a Liar banner, you simpleton.
[Update: I'm sure they could also do something funny with this pic. Anyone want to make up a good caption for it? I've got my ideas but I'll post them in the comments.]
