And I basically only watched the first inning. Why was it so great? Because I got to see a world class asshat like Roger Clemens have his worst outing of his entire career in one little half inning.
The depths of my dislike for The Rocket go back years and years and isn't overly based on the usual Red Sox fan's issues, that he abandoned the city to eventually wind up at New York in the hated pinstripes.
No, my dislike for Clemens is two fold. One, the guy admits that he throws at batters, he hasn't admitted throwing at their heads but he has hit many players in the head and he couldn't give the first damn about it. He tries to hurt people and has no remorse, that makes him a king size grade A asshole in my book.
The other good reason for hating him? He played for the Yankees. The Yankees may be a dream team to play for because they win alot but they and George Steinbrenner are truly ruining the sport of baseball with their incredible over-inflated payroll. The next closest payroll to New York is in Boston and its almost $60 million less. There are a whole bunch of teams that don't have even $60 million payrolls. Where's the parity in fielding an entire team of all-stars and super-stars? If they don't win 110+ games this season and the World Series then they are a bunch of losers. Either way, the Yankees are the most definitive reason for imposing a salary cap on the sport.
Anyway, how bad was the Rocket last night? Let's see. In one three out half inning he managed to serve up a single, double, triple and two home runs. That means he gave up a cycle (a hit to each bag) and six runs, enough for the American League to secure the win and homefield advantage in the World Series. In a few words, he got lit the fuck up! And I ate it up. I only wished he'd gotten hit in the head with a line drive to ice that cake.
One of the best parts was the interview with Joe Torre, the American League All-Star team manager for like the fiftieth time in a row, saying that Roger is a great player and his outing yesterday won't diminish his legacy. And maybe it won't but I'll remember his nationally televised suckage for a good long time to come.
Oh yeah, it was also very, very cool to watch Miquel Tejada, one of my favorite players and a living spark plug, smack the holy bejesus out of the home run derby balls with a new record in a round, 15, and a new overall record for the whole three rounds, 27. The guy's a stud who also appears to be just a good guy with a great smile, great attitude and a hot, hot bat. Nice work, Miggy!
