Paradigm Shift
Today is the day that we will most likely be getting a puppy. Our lives are going to change in lots and lots of ways, puppy into dog first and then pregnant wife into wife and baby or girl. Some people think that getting a dog just a few months before having a first baby is a bad idea because of the added stress and danger. But P has put it best, if not now then when? There really isn't ever a good time to get a dog so we're just going to go for it and round out the family unit a little more.
My boss suggested getting two dogs so they could keep each other company. Its possible, but not at first. At first we are going to have the one little yapper to deal with. We've armed ourselves with tests to perform on the puppies to help determine one of their fates in twenty minutes or a half hour. Put them on their backs and see which ones squirm around like mad. Put them down, walk away and see which one's follow. Walk away a big and snap your fingers or clap sharply to gauge their reactions. The most responsive dog is more likely to form a strong bond with her family. We are leaning towards a female and no, not so I can call her my bitch. Girl dogs are mellower and a little smaller usually. They're also generally more protective of little family members and a guardian for the baby sounds like a great idea.
The pictures I've seen have been melt in your chest cute of little guys who are probably a good bit bigger just a few days later. One looks to be destined to be a big, big dog.
Actually, tomorrow is going to be a busy day all the way around, I think. Puppy in the morning, new cable connected in the early afternoon, a trip to CostCo planned for a large batch of supplies for the house and animals, big enough to maybe warrant taking the truck as there is a distinct possibility of a new TV in the day's events. Maybe, maybe not though, not sure right now. Getting our security deposit back will be a factor in when and how big we can go. Of course, the larger the tv, the better, it just goes without saying.
It'd be fun to splurge on a plasma or LCD screen but the CRT still works pretty well and its cheap. Cheap's good.
One nice thing, the dumbass health insurance folks who no longer have me as a client charged me for not only myself but P as well. The second time in two paychecks they've done it, only this time, I have no business relationship with them, they have effectively stolen my money. Anyway, they should have wired it back over so there's an extra chunk of money for dog toys. And food. And bribes for the cat. And dog gates. And pooper scoopers. And too many things to even think about. I'm getting a dog soon. That's enough.
Pictures are sure to follow, I'll try to snap pics during the process.
