Puppy Update News
The bummer news is that the pup has another few weeks before we can take her. She's still a little too young. The good news is that we can go and see her whenever we want to and she's only a little ways down the road.
We spent a couple of hours at the farm this morning, playing with a dozen puppies, three full grown dogs and one Jekyl and Hyde tomcat. My hands are covered in tiny little scratches from their teeth and claws but it was well worth the time we spent. We narrowed the field down to a few pretty easily, some of the pups were already spoken for and some very just not interested in us at all. We got down to four, which became five and then six again. After another half hour of randomly playing with them and doing our little tests, we narrowed the field back down to two. One little girl rottie who was adorable and one girl mix and match named Honey Bear because of her fur, she looked like she had shar-pei in her or something because she's got a very wrinkly face.
We took the two pups off to a more secluded place where they couldn't see or hear the other pups and hung out with them for a while.
By the way, I'll have to shoot some pics of the farm this was on. It overlooks the Elkhorn Slough and is just gorgeous. I can't even imagine how amazing it gets when all of the strawberries in the fields come into season!
Anyway, we sat in the sun with the pups, weighing the merits of one against the other and just kind of enjoying playing with them. After a little while, the girl rottie began to whine a bit because she missed her mates. It didn't take all that much but we ended up going with the Honey Bear pup, she's mellower, sweeter, incredibly cute and, while she did whine a little bit, it was nowhere near as loud or persistent as the little rottie girl. Here is her picture. The first of many, I would think.
We are going to go back out tomorrow and see her again and spend more time with her. Next week we'll be able to bring her home for a few hours and start getting her used to the house, the cat, the yard, her space here and us.
