Its appearing that, between the two testimonies (well three if you count Dick and George separately), there are some discrepancies. Funny too because Bush got to have Cheney there with him so that, at least they could keep their stories straight. Not necessarily honest but at least it would be harder to catch them in an outright lie.
So far the news is pretty skimpy on what the issues are but let's explore who benefits from lying about their actions. But first, go and watch Bush Knew - An American Requim to see what Shrub did in the first few minutes after the plane hit the first World Trade Center tower. Hint, it wasn't what a real leader should have and could have done to avert more deaths.
Now, who benefits from lying now? Who's ass is on the line and in need of re-election? Who's campaign has already been founded upon lies and mistruths? Who needs to cover his own ass because he's still in the public light?
Yep, Bush on all accounts.
Clinton could, arguably, be trying to misdirect the commission so that Bush looks guiltier than he already is. But, unlike Bush, Bill Clinton is a highly intelligent though sexually misdirected man. What could he gain by lying to the commission? Sure, he could gain some strength for the Democrats going into the next election. But that's short sighted. And I believe that he's capable of looking down the road and knowing that the true facts of the events surrounding 9/11 will come to light.
And its George Bush who will be painted and exposed as the fraud that he truly is. The man has about as much of a relationship to the truth as a wino has with sobriety. Sure, he might vaguely recollect what its like but he's not going to risk it again.
He lies as a natural part of his day, like brushing his teeth or practicing his concerned smirk in the mirror or reinflating Laura Bush when she springs a leak.
And the latest news, Warren Buffett has joined the Kerry team as an economic advisor.
