Happy Weekend, How Many DUI's?

Hope everyone had a safe weekend, it was mostly quiet out here but I just saw on the news that there were more than 450 DUI arrests this weekend in the Bay Area and 8 fatalities. That's kind of amazing given that even the most dense among us should have realized that this was a particularly bad weekend to drink and drive.

Anyway, I did make a few forays into the hot, hot world this weekend. We went to San Francisco on Saturday for the baseball game (pictures still pending but should be worth the wait, I hope), I went to the beach on Sunday for some volleyball and hotfoot on the sand with the hound and then yesterday was spent mostly around the house.

Some highlights, because I'm a geek, I had my Raytek Infrared Thermometer with Laser pointer down on the beach to test just how hot the sand got. By 1 pm Sunday, the sand was peaking at just below 140 degrees, enough to make Nande do a little hotfoot dance if we stood in the same place for too long. Yesterday set a new record in Santa Cruz for heat, just under a hundred degrees.

The other "highlight" was playing in the surf with Nande and Brady and turning my back on the dog for just a moment and she took the chance to drop a tail, in the surf, next to a kid. Yes, you read that right, my dog took a crap in the surf next to a child. Um yeah, that wasn't much fun, especially with several hundred people watching.

Oh wait, there was another highlight! One of our pals always travels with fresh oysters, I don't know why, I'm pretty sure he gets them in the course of his work day. Anyway, he had a little cooler filled with contraband beers and an assortment of fresh oysters. With a couple of limes and a bottle of Tapatio, he was a roving raw oyster bar and I bellied up for a while. It was quite lovely to sit in the shade under the umbrellas dining on oysters and fresh plums, I felt quite privileged!

Yesterday, the privilege was a little lower down on the chain. We are now the proud owners of a ghetto hot tub, basically a cheapie inflatable pool loaded up with water, set out in the sun and let to come up to temp. It began yesterday morning at 73 degrees and ended the day at well over 85 degrees so yeah, it was hot. But it was quite nice to drop into the water and feel all that collected heat just sucked out of me. Very cool indeed! We'll see how hot it gets in today's heat and maybe I'll be tubbing again tonight after work!

And, as is the tradition, I did BBQ a bit. I had picked up some skirt steak and lamb riblets at the best butchershop in Santa Cruz on Sunday. The riblets got a healthy rub and marinade before being slow grilled and basted with their sauce, they came out like candied meat and should have been on a magazine cover. They also smelled incredible and tasted even better! Yeeha!

And that is the Labor Day weekend wrap up! I'm currently on the hunt for a new computer for P (likely a Dell, they have insane deals!), a new desk for me, a king sized bed (split between a Mission style and a Shaker Pencil Post) for us and maybe even a doghouse for the house to chill in outside. Anyone got any top shelf suppliers at rock bottom prices? I also need a good deal on an LCD screen too.
