The past week has been among the fastest and most profound of my life. With our son home with us, a whopping nine days old now, its as if the outside world has pretty well ceased to exist. We are all together, all four of us, happy in our own little nucleus, focused on the baby and enjoying our time together.
I check the news every so often but have missed most of what's been happening in the world. And that's fine, my news isn't the kind that works on a million mind scale or even a hundred thousand. My news is about my son, my wife, my dog, my backyard, my house. We go out for doctor's appointments, for errands, for lunch, for breakfast but its been so nice to come back home.
I know that there are several members of Graydon-Watch out there wondering what's the new news on the newest noodle. We've had a thousand times as many good moments as bad though there have been some times when his cry is soul twistingly painful to hear. And he doesn't laugh yet. He's made smiling expressions but we're not sure if he's smiling or just passing gas. The best thing he seems to be really getting a good handle on is finding one of his own fingers or his thumb to suck on. He's not batting a thousand on it yet but he's getting better and better.
We've been learning plenty as well and still prepping and finding out what we need more of. For me its better fitting baby caps and changing pads. P wants some lighter outfits since its hot most days right now, also I think she's on more socks. Oh, it is pretty crazy exciting around here, let me tell you. But really that's almost just the point of it. We don't turn the tv on very much, we listen to music, we lay down close to our son, we talk about what we're doing, we play with Nande. I don't get enough sleep right now but I think P's doing alright, maybe a little shy.
And my lack of sleep is half self induced. Well, self and shared inducement by Unreal Tournament 2004. Actually, its just the demo of the game and it is truly superb! You can demo the game online multiplayer with one map across all the different types of games. It is great fun to play live, I'd forgotten how much fun fragging was from back in the days of Quake and the massive slagfests we used to engage in. UT '04 is everything and much, much more. Its smooth, fast and hard (had to get that fast in between those two). If you've got a machine that can swing it then I highly recommend downloading it and forgetting to eat and be up until four in the morning two or three nights in a row. Yeah, its that good.
Anyway, back to the boy. If you got this far into the post then maybe you should get a reward? I think so too.
The only thing I can offer are newest pictures of my nine day old son (note: no babies were harmed in the making of these pictures, nor was he posed in anyway) Graydon Rocks, Baby G Sleeping on Mom and Big Yawn. I leave it to you to decide their value. To me, they are priceless instants of my boy's first and earliest moments of existence.
A iLink connecting cable is all that stands between the birth video and uploading the birth video (it will NOT be shown in full, sorry). I will try to get one soon but as much to share here as to create some DVD's for the grandmamas.
