Baby Style Cheddar

I'm out of order on my Cheddar now and will attempt to catch back up but let's get to this week's Cheddar X.

1. What is your earliest memory (presumably as a baby but maybe not)?
I thought this one would be a pretty easy question but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I can't really figure out which is a memory and which is just remembering a picture taken at the time. But I think the earliest thing I can remember involves sitting on my father's knees and having him do the horsey ride game where he'd spread his legs at the end and "save" me from falling off.

2. What scares or scared you most about having kids?
My most recurring fear is accidentally dropping my son. I don't expect that it will happen but I fear it nonetheless. And that is just the very tippy tip of the fear iceberg that's taken up residence in my thoughts.

3. How did your life change or how do you think your life will change when you have children?
I knew that life would change, I knew that everything would change, I just didn't know that I wouldn't miss anything from the old life very much. Graydon has been the most welcome and wonderful change in my life and I have a hard time thinking back to what life was like before the pregnancy and before the baby came to make every day better than the last.

4. What is your favorite thing about babies?
It used to be that I could give them back to their parents when they busted out the poop gun or toddled off down Cry All Day Lane. But now, I've gotta say that the best thing is when I'm feeding him and he pops his eyes open and stares intently at me, knowing that he's being fed by his poppa, knowing that he's seeing me. The scientist side of me wonders just how we evolved to have hearts that swell like mad when in the presence of your own offspring.

5. Is there anything sweeter than a sleeping baby?
The only thing that could possibly be sweeter than a sleeping baby is two sleeping babies.

Bonus Question
Since it just came to me, I thought I'd add another question.
6. What's the worst thing about babies?
And more pointedly, what's the worst thing about my baby? Really the thing I feared most in the before time when we were parents-to-be was the mega first poo, the mocomium, the black tar like dookie. But its not a big deal in any way and Graydon is moving away from the tar and into the juicy dookie (bet you really wanted to know that, huh?).
No, the worst thing about my baby is leaving him behind when I run some errands. Missing those amazing, precious moments when he figures out that he's got fingers he can suck on. Every moment is another revelation for him and I hate to think I might miss any of these tiny milestones in his life.

And that's my Cheddar and I'm stickin' to it.
