The Wet Wet World News Report
Three day weekend, just saying it is like a stress reliever. Three day weekend. Yeah, that'll do just fine.

Saturday was a marathon, an all day, all out blitz on the house. From when we got up until when we finally couldn't keep our eyes open anymore and had to crash, it was a day of work. It paid off very nicely in that now we've got a house that is almost a home. Its close and there are just a couple of rooms that still need a fair amount of work to get into shape but overall, the house looks awesome. The living is situated nicely and has several pathways through it. The deck looks great even if some of the plants are in the wrong places for now but that's easy enough to change around. The kitchen looks great with the exception of the table which is a disaster area.

It was about a sixteen hour day of work and it showed yesterday. I felt leaden, my hands were sore and I was ready for a play day. But we put in a few more hours on the house and then went out to spend some time with our puppy at the farm. Daylight hours are really important to be out there because they pups are very different with lots of light. They're also bigger, softer and are already becoming more gentle in their mouthing and biting although they did pretty well ruin a new pair of socks but that's my fault for wearing the tasty things. I took a bunch of pictures and might post a couple later on but don't really feel like dealing with it right now.

Oh yes, I forgot, the kids at the big house on the corner had another legend party on Friday night. Not quite as packed in as it was the first time but still lots of stupid pimply idiots in Hondas with straight pipe exhausts tearing up and down the street until after one in the morning. And a sprinkling of empties and trash out in the street the next morning, so nice, the youth of today. I'm sure the party bothered the hell out of a lot of people in the neighborhood though.

The best thing about the weekend is that I made a list of projects to get to and I was able to cross off six pretty good sized efforts in addition to the dozens of smaller projects we undertook and completed. I will be hitting my House Rx page and striking through a few soon. Some of the things taken care of: installing the new kitchen sink faucet which required all new lines from the taps as well, major clean out and organization of the garage space, filling the bookcases with my books, determining if the animal living under the house was home and then sealing of its means of entry into the underside of the house, hanging pictures, tearing out a crappy lattice work gate to the underside of the house (I'm working on building the replacement now), I started the bush cutback process just to see how involved it will be and its gonna be a lot of work to get that bugger out.

We also identified several areas of the house that will need sooner rather than later attention. The office must have better light in the form of a skylight or a new window along the back wall which will also balance out the house from the backyard some in addition to more and better light. The master bath will likely also be getting a skylight as it needs some natural light too. We're going to paint the nursery first and then move on to our bedroom and the office upstairs before moving downstairs. I'm going to get some bids from contractors on opening up the stairway at the bottom near the front door and the wall at the top. And there's more but there's only so much time and only so much money so we're picking and choosing which projects will have the biggest impact right now instead of hidden stuff that we'll never know about.

But today is a crappy and rainy President's Day and I don't see myself doing much yard work though I might play around some with my new circular saw, so cool its even got a laser built into it! I needed to get my truck registered today but they're closed so I'm stuck in the rain with a legal motorcycle and an illegal truck. I'll probably chance it in the truck if I have to go anywhere.

And last night we had our best meal here yet. Stuffed salmon, crusty and buttery garlic cheese bread, steamed asparagus and a quick basic salad followed by some of my top shelf just made Butter Pecan Ice Cream with hot caramel over the top. It was pretty damned good!

So I'm off to the garage where I can play with my saw. Need anything reduced to sawdust? I'm the guy to talk to.
