Stupor Bowl Sunday
Ah, the holy day of the football fanatic, the day where wings can be grubbed, American beer can be swilled hardcore all day long, the day when you can wear a shirt with big numbers on it and pretend that you're a sports star too, the day when friends come together to get drunk and watch a bunch of younger, richer and far more talented men play a game of football on the television.
This year we've got the Patriots and the Panthers, the P Bowl. Okay.
I should probably be more of a New England fan than I am and, when pressed, I'm pulling for the Pats over the Panthers. But its pretty much a yawn bowl for me and the game will be very secondary to spending some time with friends.
As will likely become a normal feature of posts on IP, let's see what's happened this weekend in terms of getting the house into a livable condition. Not a whole lot really, we spent a good portion of yesterday finishing up the other place. Seeing freshly painted walls in the daytime is a good way to see just how bad a painter I really am. But its cool, some work on feathering in sharp edges and the room looks pretty damned good now. The backyard is almost completed too. A small load for the dump, some debris to get into the next empty trash bin and a spraydown and its finished.
Which is good, seeing as its the 1st of February. A bummer in some ways since January was so kind to us. But onward and upward!
The war on chaos at home is progressing slowly. Its very difficult, when faced with such debris to make any real impact in any one place. The amount of shit everywhere and the list of things to do is unmanageable right now so we focus on one task at a time and are still drawn off on three others anyway. Right now I'm hanging plants (the wandering jews are in need of some draping), moving empty boxes back out to the garage where I've piled them high up on the camper shell, I'm putting up shelves in my office, I'm moving stuff from the garage to their new homes.
Which reminds me, I saw a wicked workbench on Craigslist that was even free but someone picked up that night and I called about it the next morning. Damn! Would have been perfect for me. Oh well, the garage still needs to be tackled anyway. But its becoming apparent that we need a work space out there soon because of all the repairs and projects that are going to be going on.
I'm also going to try and install a dimmer switch today. Doesn't seem too hard although our circuit breakers aren't labeled. By the time we're done with the house, I expect to have replaced all of the switches with dimmer switches. Its a cheap and easy way to have a direct effect on the environment. And those are all the projects that I and think about right now.
It has been kind of peaceful without having cable TV hooked up. Its on its way but right now, its kind of cool. Music is on but its not as all sensory as TV. You don't have to watch music, tv kills of motivation and focus. I wish I were strong enough to not have one at all. But then, what would I play Vice City on? Oh yeah, I'm playing True Crime right now. So far its alright but its got its problems.
Actually this post does have a purpose, it does have a calling. Its a calling to all game developers out there to standardize their control setups. If its a first person shooter than make the controls for all the games the same or close enough to so that newbies can play and have fun instead of bailing out of a speeding car at top speed or jumping up and down when you want to shoot? Driving games should be the same. Sports games, RPGs, all of it.
There, I did get around to saying something worthwhile.
