A Different Cat in a Different Bag
Well, since I spoke with my Mom yesterday and broke the good news to her. And though I should speak with the rest of my family to let them know as well, we're not doing a very good job of keeping things low key. At all.
Its not like its a huge surprise. I mean, its one of the main reasons people get married in the first place but since this'll be our first that makes it alot more special and important. If only to us and the people who know and love us.
We're going to have a baby.
That's right. I'm going to be a father. P is going to be a mother. And, in an instant, we're actually plowing right down the family track. Not that its a problem in any way, just a little bit sooner than we expected or had planned.
The good news is tinged some sadness in the family as I learned when I spoke to my mom last night. I've not spoken to either my brother or sister about our good news but I know there's some sad news. Its not my place to discuss it here before speaking with them but I will pass along news once I feel comfortable in doing so.
Since I'm sure there are some questions swirling around out there about now, how's about I give a little more detail on the whole event.
We think we're about six weeks in now, maybe seven depending on when you start counting (and no, this isn't me being vague, there are at least a couple of different ways to count weeks, months and terms for pregnancies). But we're still in the very early stages, no pooch yet, no morning sickness though P has been feeling noticably less well at night so I'm wondering there's such a thing as evening sickness but its managable for now, I think. We're having a honeymoon baby, most likely conceived at the mineral springs in San Luis Obispo or maybe at the Blackthorne Inn up in the trees, that would be kind of cool.
P and I have talked about all of our options and there really isn't any question that we are keeping the baby and forging ahead with our family plans. It just doesn't make any sense to restart the clock again, as it were. Not when we've been handed an almost two month jump start into the whole process. But there will be some very sizable changes on our horizons soon. But we've got books and other resources to learn from, friends to tap for input, insight and relief and a whole support network that we're going to exploit like mad.
So that's my weekend wrap up.
There was other stuff that happened this weekend like a trip to The Tech, dinner in the east bay with friends, lots of house time during the heavy downpours yesterday and far too much time wasted playing Downhill Domination (a review is pending but the short one is easy, this game kicks ass!) when I should have been writing for NanoWrimo, which I'm wavering on admitting defeat or giving it another week to see if I can get one or two heavy, heavy nights of pounding the board in search of an instant novel.
[Update: The review for Downhill Domination is up over on NorCal Bikers and will be added to the Reviews page later on today.]
Oh yeah, and a new toy that I absolutely must have soon, its a Raytek MT4 handheld infrared thermometer and no, I'm not joking. I really want one.
