Live Baseball Fantasy Draft Results
I'm sure lots of people think that fantasy sports are lame or gay or whatever but they've grown up in the internet age and are now robust, real time strategy games that have the added twist of being based on events that occur in the real world. And yes, I do think that sports are , in some ways, a different kind of religious opiate in the Marxian sense. But I think that's another topic for another post.

So, without further wankeration on my part. Though I can't promise that some commentary won't follow or even accompany the players as they list.
Old Essy Pounders 2003 Roster
C Santiago, Benito (C-SF), whiny but still productive at 38
1B Palmeiro, Rafael (1B, DH-Tex), not whiny and far more productive
2B Kennedy, Adam (2B-Ana)
3B Glaus, Troy (3B-Ana) big power third baseman
SS Aurilia, Rich (SS-SF) healthy and hitting ahead of Bonds, career season ahead maybe
OF Sheffield, Gary (RF-Atl) angry bat swinger with lots to prove
OF Dye, Jermaine (RF, DH-Oak) healthy again and assuming leadership role on team, bat should speak loudly
OF Hidalgo, Richard (RF-Hou) gamble with short leash
Util Varitek, Jason (C-Bos)
Bench Gibbons, Jay (RF, 1B-Bal) rising big power hitter
Bench Ellis, Mark (2B-Oak) on the trade or waiver lists
Bench Valentin, Jose (3B, SS-CWS) surprising power
Bench Cedeno, Roger (LF-NYM) surprising speed
Bench Vina, Fernando (2B-StL) utility guy with gamer attitude

SP Johnson, Randy (SP-Ari) best pitcher ever
SP Mulder, Mark (SP-Oak) big overpowering Oaktown hero
RP Smoltz, John (RP-Atl) Ace starter cum ace closer, best in the bigs 2002
RP Graves, Danny (RP, SP-Cin) might get more chanecs to save games with Griffey healthy
P Glavine, Tom (SP-NYM) new town, media pressure, Glavine's a pro
P Hampton, Mike (SP-Atl) new lower altitude team with winning history, big sleeper pick
P Lidle, Cory (SP-Tor) threw something like 30+ innings without a run last year

My pitching is very strong this year and I expect to win most of the pitching side stats. The league I'm in is a head to head one in which an assembled team from each team's roster is pitted against the other, the stats the actual players generate are used to determine who defeats who for that week. My hitters should provide some power and it really should be a pretty good year. I'm competing against other league winners from last year so managers are involved in the game all the time. I'll probably provide season updates here as we go, unless I'm losing alot.
