Its Duck Hunting Season

Perhaps I'm in the minority here but has anyone else had more than enough of the Aflac duck? You know, the stupid commercials where people are worried about getting hurt and one has heard about the "filler" insurance offered by the company, and then the duck shows up to quack "Aflac" a bunch of times.

I'm all for an irritating no-talent loser like Gilbert Gottfried getting work (he's the voice of the duck) but this ad campaign has more than run its course and its time to think of something new.

And you know what? That's my good idea for the day. Oh yeah, I need to share it first, eh? Okay, how about a video game system that interacts with the television broadcast. So that, when that friggin' duck comes out you can actually shoot it with your light gun. Or when the Enzyte freak comes out, you can waste him with your chain gun. I have no idea how it could be made to work but with a Tivo and a powerful computing system behind it, it could work. And television would never be the same again. It could even be incorporated into a feedback mechanism for the advertisers to know the ads that are getting shot up and those that aren't. But that's incidental to my joy of wasting that stupid duck every time it waddles out on the screen.

Counterpoint
Contrast the irritating ad campaigns with the latest commercial from Pepsi (which sucks by the by, the soda, not the commercial) featuring Sammy "Say It Ain't" Sosa, the slugger for the NL Chicago Cubs, walking up to a taqueria. A "fan" is amazed and orders a special taco for him, as Sammy bites into it, he realizes that the taco is damned hot and mimes for a Pepsi. The "fan" walks away while putting on his baseball cap and its a Chicago White Sox hat. Sammy yells "Hey" and the guy shows him his hat and gives Sammy his own signature two finger kiss and chest pat. Sammy smiles and fade to black.

Its clever, its cute and a very well done little ad. Of course, if I see it five thousand times, I'll be ready to kill them all too but for now, its still a good ad.
