A good end to a good day. We went out to the farm after work last night to get Nande and bring her home. The lady there was still unclear on us taking her last night and thought we were planning on waiting until the weekend. But we explained that now is better than later for us, we've got training to get to and getting her used to her new house, new family and everything that goes along with it.
She was reluctant but gave in without too much trouble. And I sympathize with her and the boys. They've had these little balls of furry joy almost all to themselves for two and a half months and, now, the end is near and its painful for them. I'm not sure but I think the older boy was crying when we finally pulled out of the driveway. I've attempted to be as empathic as possible to her feelings, to gently peel back the bandaid instead of ripping it clean off.
But the skinny is that, right now, in our kitchen, in her crate inside her corral, Nande is sleeping after some morning play in the yard. She didn't have too rough a night but did whine a bit which makes sense, she's alone for the first time in a new place and I'm sure its daunting for her. But she's adjusting pretty nicely already and had a true blast playing in the backyard this morning.
One thing I do know is that we will need more information to cope with some of her activities. And that's alright, we both went into this knowing that we've got a pretty steep learning curve to climb. I've had Monks of New Skeet books recommended to me as good manuals so I'll probably check them out later on today.
But the good part is that she's here, she's happy and we're happy. Now if we could only get the cat on board too.
[Update: She also has her first webpage! Check her out over on Dogster: Nande. Well choke my chicken, it would appear that Dogster somehow deleted my account and profile already. I promise I didn't curse or anything. It should be up again before too long. Sorry for the delay. How's about another pic to make up for it? Tough Pup]
