Puppy Update and What We Fear Most in All of This
First off, let's toss out a couple of tonight's pics from going to see our puppy. Sweet Pup and Happy Pup.
We had a good visit this evening. Too short, as always but still nice and fun to be with all the pups and their momma, who's truly a beautiful Rottweiler if there ever was one. The momma is staying out with them until they're brought in because there are wild animals that would just love a tasty little puppy meal, as much as that hurts to think about or write. But with Momma Rott around, I don't think any critter would dare try anything because she's big, she's protective and she won't take any shit from anyone, just like a momma should be.
It was kind of strange though, because the momma is starting to discipline and teach the little fellas how to not bite and how to be submissive. But sometimes it appears that she's going just a little overboard with her aggression and it looks like she's going to hurt the pups. But she doesn't and she's training them to not bite which is a good thing. But hearing those little yip, yip, yips tears at your heart something fierce.
The fear isn't for the puppies though. Its for P and me actually getting to take her home with us for keeps. The lady who's puppies they are now is concerned about the amount of time we both work and the pending baby that will likely take on quite alot of our time (quit laughing, parents). Her concerns are legitimate but we're already making moves towards being able to be more available and I'm on a track to be working out of the house at least some of the time soon and full time eventually.
It scares the crap out of me when she voices her concerns because we have both invested a bit of ourselves in this beautiful and wonderful little pup. To help assuage her concerns, she's going to be bringing our puppy over to our house this Saturday so she can see the kind of space she'll have and where we are. The thought of not being able to keep the puppy is really just too much to bear and I refuse to allow myself to dwell on that negative side. Especially not when our little puppy seems to recognize us and enjoy our company more and more. She sat very happily in my lap and then in P's lap for a long time, trying to lick our faces and then just enjoying being there with us. And, when we were leaving, she came to the door as if to say goodbye to us. Saturday will be a long time in coming.
What's that? You want one more puppy picture before you surf on to the next blog? Okay, I think I can swing with that. Bear the puppy who is going to grow up to be a big hound but he is so sweet it just melts you. He came up to me tonight and just put his head in my lap so gently. They really are very, very sweet little puppies, when they're not trying to chew your sweatshirt to shreds or running off with shoelaces or whatever else they can their razor sharp little teeth around.
