Meaningless for Non Baseball Fans and Non Bay Area Folks
But HUGE if you're a San Francisco Giants fan!
Giants Trade for Sidney Ponson which is a very , very big deal because Ponson is a power pitcher of the highest caliber and, with Jason Schmidt (another power pitcher), the Giants have two big and strong horses to ride all the way through the post season to the World Series.

And this time, Crusty Dusty Baker won't be able to give away Game Six and the series by pulling Russ Ortiz in the 7th with a 5-0 lead and two men on. That still kills me.

Although I kind of knew something was going to have to happen for the Giants to not win the World Series last year. I remember turning on the TV as we gathered back at my father's house after his wake and seeing the score and then feeling that sinking feeling of knowing it wasn't going to be the storybook ending for the Giants.

Not this time, this time they are a better team with a better manager who doesn't let his 3 year old run around the dugout and nearly get killed while attempting to retrieve a bat and causing the initiation of the Darren Baker Rule that states that all batboys must be 15 or older or somesuch like that.

The other big Bay Area trade was the A's picked up Jose Guillen from the Reds who have had a fire sale in the last three weeks after chopping their management, then they chopped their best players and are left with a truly awful team that will be lucky to win 25% of the rest of the games this season. Glad I'm not a Reds fan.
