Not many people will recognize his name right off the bat but damned near everyone I know grew up with his writing. Today is the 75th birthday of Maurice Sendak who wrote Where the Wild Things Are. A book that remains one of my favorites and one of my mother's favorites to this day.
And if you've never read it then go get a copy or even if you read it but it was a long time ago, go get a copy and read it again.

It also happens to be Esther's birthday so a very Happy Birthday to her as well!
Shame she has to share her birthday with Rod Stewart, who's always driven me nuts (and not in a good way). But he's mitigated by Pat Benatar and George Foreman's b'days today as well. Popular day to be born.
