Yet Another Bad Marketing Ploy

The recently renamed Cockeyed Absurdist has alerted me to another bad, stupid and irritating marketing tactic.

It seems that, according to this story on CNN that Sony and Ericsson (you know the cell phone guys who are getting spanked all over the planet by Nokia) are sending out good looking people to ask strangers to take their picture with their....ooooh, drum roll, cell phones. But head marketing jackass, Jon Maron swears that this is not a sales pitch. Oh no, nothing of the sort. They just want to get nice pictures of the people they hired? Come on, you idiot. How can it not be a sales pitch? Do you think people are as stupid as you obviously are?

Oh wait, if the stand in photographer "presses" the actors (described as young, cool people in the areas they live) will tell them where to buy the phone. How is that not a sales pitch?

I got rid of my cell phone a few weeks ago because I just don't use it and find people who incessantly chat on cell phones to be the most vacuous on the planet. Do you really need to talk to your friends ALL the frigging time? Hang up and Drive! Or better, Hang Up and Stop Weaving like a Drunk Driver!
