Milestones

Anyone who follows my Twitters will already that I finished and installed the boys' "bump beds" last night and am quite proud of how beautifully they turned out. Sully didn't get to see them until this morning because he fell asleep on the couch. And I don't think his rolling out and crying attempts to climb back in count because he never opened his eyes.

But Grady was thrilled to have a lofty perch to call his bed. I can see that we're going to need to figure out a way to clean the wall because he already loves to lay on his bed and thump his, often filthy, feet against the wall.

There is a huge amount of recouped space in their room now with the beds stacked. And an even bigger amount of recouped space in the garage.

Sully has already taken his first tumble from the ladder but I think it was more of a lesson than damaging. He was trying to climb down with his blankey in his hands and I was warning him how dangerous it was. Then whammo! He tumbled down from about halfway down the ladder. He's alright but he's referred to the fall a couple of times already and that, to me, is a good sign that he'll be more careful moving forward.

Overall the project took several months longer than anticipated due to other pressures and the loss of after-work light. But its done, they are beautiful and, more importantly, the boys absolutely love them!

Thanks Craigslist Flaker!

Usually the flakes who populate Craigslist are a pain in the ass, they call and promise to come by a certain time. Sometimes they call again an hour or so after they were supposed to be there with a BS story. Sometimes they'll even call a day or so later to try and make another appointment (which they'll blow off or otherwise ignore). And if they do show up, they will usually offer less than half of the agreed upon price figuring you just want to get rid of the thing. At which point I generally tell them to piss off.

Usually the dance is annoying in the extreme.

But sometimes it works out in my favor.

Like today, I was able to finally sync my schedule with a guy who was giving away some bunk beds. The first guy who he'd tried to give them to was a total flake, called hours later and tried to reschedule. I was the second email he'd gotten, we talked, we talked some more and finally got together today.

The bunkbeds kick all kinds of ass though they need some work (yes, pictures are forthcoming), some paint and some TLC. But they are solid, they are nice and the boys will love them when we get them installed.

Sometimes Craigslist really does kick all kinds of ass!
