Circumcision may stop millions of HIV deaths: "'In West Africa, male circumcision is common and the prevalence of HIV is low, while in southern Africa the reverse is true,' they wrote in the current report, published in the Public Library of Science Medicine."
This isn't definitive but it certainly is a strong argument for circumcising boys. The study estimates that if all African men were circumcised over the next ten years then 2 million infections and 300,000 deaths could be avoided.
The pyschological effect of having a penis that doesn't look funny (truth be told, a clipped penis looks almost as silly as an unclipped penis but the unclipped easily wins) was not a part of the study.
