Rough Night That Ended On a Good Note

Well, the honeymoon period is over. Last night was the most trying night we've have with Nande yet. She was restless, bad and confusing. She kept trying to chew on pretty much everything BUT her toys. Dragged stuff out of the bookcase, peed inside and has basically proven that the corral we got for her is less than worthless.

Picture this, the corral is a movable barrier made up of 8 equal sections, 30 inches high. She can climb over it.

I've seen her do it twice and it blows my mind and, on the one hand, I'm quite impressed with her intelligence in figuring out how to climb over it but on the other hand, the corral is supposed to be our safe zone. Our place where we can put her that's not confinement because she'll be able to see and interact with us in the rest of the downstairs. It can also be used for the potty training for the inside the house. She's got the outside part of potty training down pretty well.

But she's demonstrating some confusion over the rules in the rest of the house. She's no longer allowed to roam at all in the house. She must stay with us, in the room and potentially on a leash even.

One thing that P read that I implemented quickly is to have some training lessons in the places where she's peed inside. After they've been deodorized, of course, a few lessons in that area is supposed to teach her that that place is part of her den as well. So she shouldn't be peeing there. We'll see if it helps but for now, we're not taking chances. She's got to earn the trust and the respect.

We've got so many different things going on with her that its no wonder she gets a little confused. I'm not down with the confinement all day. Besides, if she does HAVE to go potty then I want to give her the option to not soil her den. She can pee in the playpen much more easily and we can also get her used to peeing on the papers which is a big part of the training process for us.

The good thing is that the pet place will allow me to exchange the lower corral for the big one with four foot high sections. I doubt she'll be able to climb up that one! But you never know, maybe I'll have to make a top for it as well but I doubt it.

And I think I'm approaching the time when her crate comes upstairs and she sleeps in our bedroom with us. More time with us can't be a bad thing and I tend to think that it might be part of the problem. She doesn't get enough interaction and "in" time with her pack.

Funny Side Note
My spell checker just suggested a fitting alternative for "webmaster". It offered "wombats". Nice! And can anyone else explain to me how the spell check built into Blogger doesn't recognize the word "blog"? Did they do that on purpose for a laugh or are they stupid or something?
