For today is the Opening Day of the 2007 Major League Baseball season. The World Champion St. Louis Cardinals take on the scary good looking New York Mets!Today is the day when all teams can look to the future with anticipation rather than dread many of the bottom teams will have in a few short weeks (yep, I'm looking at you KC Royals).Baseball is back and I'm pretty darned excited about it.
Our trip up to see the Giants home opener on Tuesday has been cancelled unfortunately but understandably. The ticket prices we were finding were a little crazy. I had already made the adult decision to step out of the festivities as I'm not working right now and it is hard to justify dropping the coinage on such a non-necessity.
Until the first pitch tonight, every player has a chance to be the home run king, the batting champ and the slugging champ. Until that first pitch and the stars start shining and the regulars start regularing.
But one of the best things about the start of the season is that there are always a couple of guys who come out of the gate HOT, HOT, HOT. Chris Shelton last year for Detroit was unreal and now he's working his way back up to the majors. Who will it be this year?
Whoever it is, I hope I've got them on my fantasy teams!
