From the: And-They-Thought-This-Was-A-Good-Idea-How? Files
Seven Arrested in Malaysian Email Terrorism Hoax tells the story of seven people who sent false emails talking about terrorist attacks to take place in Malaysia. Funny? No, not really.

People need to recognize that some stuff is open to funning at but other things, like terrorism, really aren't. Its just a sign of really, really bad taste and manners to make light of something as serious as terrorism. But it looks like they'll have up to the next year to consider how stupid they were. And more arrests are on the way.

Of course, privacy be damned in the face of the prosecution of terror worldwide. I thank my parents for having the fabulous foresight to give birth to me here in the US where I do have rights against wanton inquisition by the government. And I can speak my mind without fear of recrimination (up to a point that I would never have any desire to cross in any case).

Which reminds me of a conversation I had with Paula over the weekend about J.D. Salinger who's farm in Cornish, Vermont wasn't all that far from where I grew up. And I'd heard stories of him burning manuscripts instead of publishing them. I'd postulated that he might be destroying material so offensive that he was compelled to do so. Not that I think its really plausible but it is possible that he needed to write out his demons and then burn them to vanquish them. And it reminds me that not all of my writing and thoughts are meant to be shared with the greater world in general. Some ideas and thoughts are best left to small group disclosures.
