Tripping Out to Babies 'R Us

Well, we'd intended on getting up there over the weekend but things got a little impacted and too tight so we pushed it out until last night.

Registering for the baby. Or, bar code scanning for fun and goodies.

The first bit of advice, choose a store that hasn't just been remodeled or is in the middle of a remodel. The workers have no idea where anything is and you can end up wandering back and forth for hours. We did alright though, I think we hit something like 90% of our list with a few items we held back on because the set up was too confused at the store or we'd already decided we wanted something like it from our One Step Ahead catalog.

There are some really interesting and cool baby things and we've sort of settled on a theme for the nursery. It looks like we're going with an African theme, cool safari animal stencils, a bitchin' safari baby rug and a whole bunch of other cool big animal themed stuff including a really cool light.

One funny thing was that, as we were getting our scanner gun to speed register, I was looking around and had the kind of obvious thought that there were an awful lot of pregnant women in there. And then the huge bucket of duh caught up with me.

And we took Nande with us up over the hill, that's Highway 17 to the local or used to be local folks, and she did okay except for when we stopped to get gas. P went to the bank next door to get some cash and deposit some checks. I got out to pump the gas and Nande went ballistic, barking her fool head nearly clean off. She has figured out how to get almost her whole body out of of the sunroof but only succeeded in scratching up the roof with her claws. Its one of those things that we need to work on, I was only ten or twenty feet away and in plain view and she was going nuts. On some levels its really kind of sweet but its also a bit of a hassle.

I'll be putting together a baby registry page over the next few days to showcase all the goodies we're onto for the pending baby.

We took yet another step to this new and daunting reality of having a baby to care for. Its becoming ever more real (I'm sure its been alot more real all the way through for my beach ball belly wife) with each passing day and, though we're both looking forward to it, we're also more than a little concerned about our ability to raise a child (though I must say that we're doing a bang up job on the puppy so far, she's sweet, smart, easy and knows the sound of my truck, my motorcycle and P's car as well.

Next week we'll be having another ultrasound too so that'll be exciting stuff. A baby at 34 weeks will be much, much different from the last time we peeked into its world.
