Junior Sized Gratification
Got a chance to go and play some softball yesterday afternoon for the first time in at least six or seven years and was struck by how good it feels to drill and I mean really put the screws to a softball. Hit it so hard that the next time you hear those magical words from the outfielders, "Back Up." Those two, tiny chest swelling words that mean power and ability to apply to a round ball in pretty decent kinetic fashion.
Anyway, I learned that I am more of a DH kind of softballer because quite honestly, I suck at fielding. Maybe its because I haven't done it in such a long time but calling me porous at third is being generous. The hitting's a blast, literally. We had a team of six, shared a pitcher and catcher, which meant that in three innings of hits softball we would all come up a whole bunch.
After surging to a 9-4 lead in the second, the other team had a major power outing and racked up a 17-9 lead. With two outs in the third, we started to hit, Singles and triples and home runs until we'd matched them at a football-esque 17-17.
All in all a great fun way to wait out the sunset.
